Stephen Hawking’s final act before he died was to pay for Easter meal for homeless.

He was an inspiration to us all while he was alive and even in death his actions touched hundreds.

While thousands of people lined the streets of Cambridge to pay tribute to Stephen Hawking, elsewhere in the city the professor’s final gift was being delivered.

Professor Hawking paid for a massive Easter meal for homeless people in the city, complete with decorations and flowers.

And thanks to his donations more than 50 guests enjoyed the meal put on by FoodCycle at Wesley Methodist Church.

A note left on the table told guests that the lunch was a ‘gift from Stephen’, while organisers of the event said the professor was given a ‘little cheer’ by diners.

FoodCycle Cambridge said: ‘We’re so grateful to the Hawking family for their generous donation so we could give our guests an extra special Easter meal yesterday.
